Just to share my top "experiences". (with my very non-native english, sorry)
I bought this oculus rift s because after years of being on laptop, I got finally back on desktop pc with a RTX 2070, Ryzen stuffs and ram blabla. (and because corona).
What i enjoy the most about VR is the insane 1:1 human scale, even if I already tried VR occasionally I forgot about this part. I watched ton of videos the month before throwing my money and the scale of a video can't share this crazy feeling, i'm still surprised about it now (when i launched asgard's Wrath after watching video tests). Let's write my top games/apps
Half-Life : Alyx
I started directly with this game, It was amazing and exhausting in the same time (I got a bit of motion sickness when I panicked and turned crazy to avoid headcrabs). About the game, nothing special to say, It is obviously a dope game and the steam workshop will make me coming back at it, it's a safe buy :) Museum Of Other Realities
This one also got installed first days because I already enjoyed this at A Maze Fest (indie video game fest in Berlin). This is a "museum" and the art pieces are insane, you can dive into some art and again, the VR scale with crazy colors and geometrical digital art is pure joy, some got infinite depth, you feel that you dive in an ocean of digital madness. And I love that they are curating real life digital artists to be exposed in this. I didn't like everything but they have a collection of 40 art piece, some with fractal elements reacting to your movements, some are more like Tilt Brush style art. I can't wait for update. https://www.museumor.com/collection Beat Saber
Well I got satisfaction from beat sabing the boxes , good feeling, quick to launch and good workout. But the "official" music selection is not crazy for me, I'm into Electronic Hip Hop kind of stuffs. Of course I enjoyed the possibility to get custom maps but i'm not into jap pop dance edm stuffs. I still found dope songs like Meshuggah or Ultra Vomit (yes i like grind death) but yeah good game, will be better when I stop to be lazy about doing my own music map. Even creating a song specially for beatsaber, could be a fun thing to do. Robo Recall
This one is a shot of fun, repetitive but it's normal, it's just waves. It is super beautiful imo and got the instant fun effect, weapon feeling is nervous, robots are classy (I loved so much when they look at you angry at the beginning). Not the killer app but great to have it in my library. Good one for friends testing. Eleven Table Tennis
Ohlala, I bought this game with a pessimistic feeling. I remember ping pong games were always gadget for wii or kinnect (like tennis and boxing). (I enjoyed the xbox one from Rockstar tho). But this game absolutely throw the wow factor on me. At first, I was impressed about the realistic ball physic. Then I enjoyed the ball launcher for training. And then i started to play online and at this moment I was over excited. I spoke with some people exchanging balls, we laughed a lot and everyone had a relax behavior, I felt I had a good ping pong game with a random guy (no girl yet...) and it was the case. To feel that we were both playing serious sport in a room distanced by thousands km tilted something in my brain. I even made a 3d print paddle adapter to enjoy it to the max. VR Chat
I didn't go there since a while but It was hilarious, I ended to create a pack of recorded "text to speech" voice (english text with french voice for the silly accent) on a midi controller on ableton live. I also played music to check how it is technically possible to play an electronic live show in VR. And It worked, people reacted good to it, it was again a weird and nice experience. The Thrill Of The Fight (and Creed Rise To Glory)
I liked them both. The Thrill for the realistic feeling and Creed for the multiplayer fun. I don't find much player tho but like the ping pong game, it's a great feeling to be able to beat the ass of a random dude (where are the girls?) in VR. Google Earth VR
I got busy with games but I will come back to it because it's CUTE (miniature style, was fun to watch my home or cities where i lived and worked). Superhot VR
What can i say, everybody knows the concept. I played it years ago (again at this festival in Berlin before it went on steam), it was cool but the VR version totally makes sense, controlling the speed with your body movements is a lot more gratifiant than a mouse. The matrix fun factor is obviously there. Sensua Hellblade
I didn't have the time to play much but i'm happy to have it. I already had it on "non vr" version but the same, i was busy with others games. I was very surprised about the possibility to play at third person view without feeling "meeeh" about it. It works super good and it's an important step forward to motivate others devs to work on VR versions of some AAA games (Rockstar, we are waiting). Lone Echo
One of the first games I tested, I like it but i felt bored a bit, like ok I must repair this shit, and then ? this one too ? and what now ? But i believe that I will enjoy it later when I calm down about testing everything.
I love it, robots are dope to look at. Movements gave me a lot of satisfaction, climbing, jumping high, double jumping, surfing, running, scan activating, shooting, everything is smooth. The "mods tree" system is dope and bring some depth to the game. But i'm a bit sad about the "far cry" system. By that, i mean that it is repetitive, you go to an island, you blast some robots, you open or activate something and that's all (I didn't play more than 4 hours because I bought Asgard's Wrath). Asgard's Wrath
First, i had to download this game 3 times before i got rid of the "your antivirus is blocking the installation". Thanks for the solution I found here. About the game, it is absolutely amazing. The same, I started yesterday but I already feel that it is the biggest VR game. Textures are mad (I supersample at 1.3), French voices are on point, God view is like google earth, fights are not crazy but the staging, scenario, ambiance, music, game design are so AAA. The PNG allies are dope and diverses, it is a massive game and a sort of dream to be able to play a good RPG-action game in VR.
And voilà. Also great to find information, DIY ideas and a real VR community on Reddit.
