EDITORIAL: The Snyder Prism - The Social Experiment of Being ZACK SNYDER - PART II

THE SOCIAL EXPERIMENT OF BEING ZACK SNYDER - PART II
THE SNYDER PRISM
NOTE: I WROTE THIS ARTICLE THE NIGHT BEFORE HBO MAX ANNOUNCED THE SNYDER CUT IN 2021, SO IT HAS BEEN REWRITTEN TO SUIT THIS NEW SITUATION. CONTINUED FROM HERE
Will the Snyder Cut premiere be the end of this quest that has lasted so many years?
Possibly. Most likely.
However, this fan still wants to imagine a little more of this jumble of symbolic and transcendental interpretations of those mythical characters. This fan likes to spend hours of insomnia exercising and polishing ideas of what would be worthy continuations of this strange episode of the cinematographic adaptation of comics.
This fan, not only thinks that Henry Cavill has clearly demonstrated that he is the Superman that this world wants, that he himself wants to play much longer, and that he could perfectly do a great tandem in a Man of Steel sequel where Supergirl was introduced, so the relationship of both Kryptonians can be explored in this world so symbolically charged that Snyder has left us.
This fan ambitions the impossible return of Ben Affleck to the role of the Dark Knight of Gotham, of his faithful butler Alfred under the guise of Jeremy Irons, and other troop of performers who have given life to the lore of this icon ...
And while we know that it will not be in the form of an imminent film, given Warner's solid (?) plans with his new and younger version of Batman, to which by the way, I wish them good luck, I do not stop thinking that right now there is a magnificent alternative, absolutely adequate at the most propitious moment, to continue the adventures of Affleck's Batman, financially exploiting his commercial pull: HBO MAX.
The premium streaming platform, which bears the name of the company that made the best high-budget streaming and cable shows Hollywood has ever given, that now has to face the disadvantage of being late to the streaming party and face Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and the newcomer with months in advantage and endless blank checks, Disney+.
HBO MAX, that budding business that so desperately needs its own "The Mandalorian" to attract a massive initial audience with a juicy and irresistible product.
HBO MAX, that giant streaming platform promising high-budget, high-quality series and movies Direct-to-Streaming.
HBO MAX, that promise of a Warner brand products capable of looking eye to eye to the omnipotent red pants mouse.
Geoff Johns at DC ENTERTAINMENT… executives at Warner Media… AT&T investors… you have your flagship in front of you, a well-known and incombustible product, with enough impact to break the Internet again.
A miniseries, limited event, DC/HBO MAX´s THE BATMAN.
The shutdown in style of the phenomenon that has kept fans in suspense for 5 years through thick and thin. A miniseries event with the budget of a blockbuster movie, with Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck at the wheel, now that both have recovered from their respective tragedies, to give a great ending to the most controversial, loved and hated Batman in the recent history of the movies.
Not only do I see this as an innocuous and empty idea to fill with common facilities and fancasts that are rarely met.
At this point, I have tried to draw the exact lines of how a feat of this size would be carried out. I have tried to enter the twisted mind of that misunderstood genius that is Zack Snyder, that trickster with a magnificent eye for photography that excites us so much and that we so much distrust. I have tried to put myself under his skin and under the skin of all the filmmakers who made up this universe, to give cohesion to a last sonata that leaves us with the closure that we neither expected nor knew we needed. I call this "see through the Snyder Prism".
Zack Snyder is that person who needs to deconstruct a character before adapting it. Someone who internalizes it, decomposes it, fills it with his beliefs and experiences, and reconstructs it with a visual delicacy that would impress Michelangelo himself.
Zack Snyder is that director who, reading Superman, built his own Christian Jewish messianic figure around a man in tights and a red cape. He is this guy who turns the figure of Lois Lane, the lady in distress par excellence, into the narrative engine of a universe. Who transforms the father figures of his particular Christ into philosophical debates that continue discussion for years after the premiere of the films. Who understood that the figure of an evil and pompous philanthropist loved by his people today would not have towers in his name like Donald Trump, but companies that traffic with the most valuable source that currently exists: the information and time of humanity, of each and everyone of us.
Zack Snyder is that man who saw in Wonder Woman an immortal warrior who, beyond the curves and colors of a nation, needed a physical and moral core, along with a charisma, that was not about the inked shapes of the comics, and who brought an ex-military supermodel against the voices of many to make her, with immense help from Gal Gadot herself and Patty Jenkins, one of the most universally recognized and beloved characters.
Zack Snyder is that rebel who defied the idea of a pathetic Aquaman, a member of the most mocked royalty of the 7 seas, to turn Arthur Curry into a respected character with a premium lady-killer card. A character, let's remember, a very excellent James Wan took to the extreme in his own film, giving him back the purest roots of the character after a face wash, to which Momoa himself would say: I DIG IT.
And finally, Zack Snyder is that fan of comics who decomposed the most chewed and versioned character in the history of comics to return to his essence from a personal point of view and a visual prism mixed with the most iconic images of the caped crusader. That man who understands that Gotham, and incidentally, all the mythology of Batman, is nothing more than the synergy created by the sum of the parts of the villain gallery that the detective faces every other night, beginning and ending with his own fears and weaknesses.
A character, who is at the same time the world in which he operates, that as Bruce Wayne himself highlighted in Batman V Superman comes from a family of hunters and fur dealers. An alpha predator in inhospitable and deadly terrain, too large to be able to encompass with the strength of a single man, even if he is an infinite man. And this is where the matrix breaks down into all the prey whom inhabit his kingdom, all the villains, the vermin, who aspire to reign in their shadowy corner of this maze of smoke, gases, rain, ancient walls and neon, knowing in the bottom of their fearful hearts, that the bat flies over their heads every night, and that any night, they could be the unfortunate next prey of Gotham's greatest hunter.
And finally, here and now, I think I reach both the top of Zack Snyder's vision of his own universe of characters licensed by DC Comics, and the moment to talk of the aforementioned miles above Joker of Jared Leto.
-
I'll be talking about it and more on future posts, as a part of a series of articles about Zack Snyder and the DCEU. I'll present some more ideas, maybe some fancasts, based on the "Snyder prism", and politely disscussing with you all about this.
If you liked this post and this idea, please, share, subscribe, comment with your own ideas...

Divinity: C
A skill denoting the measure of whether one has Divine Spirit aptitude or not. Due to unexplained circumstances that resulted in Barnum’s summoning as a Foreigner, he holds a level of divinity.
Existence Outside the Domain: EX
A class skill reserved for Foreigners. Formed as a result of an experience with a being beyond comprehension and surviving. Barnum did not leave his jail time as the same man.

Active
Charisma (False): A
A composite Skill consisting of a person's charm as well as the natural talent to command or unify an army or country. Rather than a natural charm, there’s something inherently synthetic about Barnum’s personality.

_______________

Biography

Default
A showman and businessman who found fame with a travelling circus and freak show. Through a combination of hoaxes and deformities alongside a silver tongue, thousands of patrons were drawn to his performances and exhibits, earning him the titles of ‘Circus King’ and ‘Shakespeare of Advertising.’ His biography was printed so much, it was only second to the New Testament in America.
Bond 1
Height/Weight: 188cm ・82kg
Source: Historical Fact
Region: North America, Connecticut
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Gender: Male
A charming smile that becomes hideous when no one’s looking.
Bond 2
"I don't believe in duping the public, but I believe in first attracting and then pleasing them.” thus did Barnum live a double standard. He improved Connecticut in order to line his pockets, he denounced black slavery while putting on minstrel shows, he offered ‘freaks’ better treatment so people could laugh at them. Even so, even presidents and royalty enjoyed the spectacles and believed the lies that Barnum told.
Bond 3
In his early life, Barnum was considered a poor liar and a man who struggled to muster support, yet after time in jail due to libel, he emerged a completely different man. A larger than life figure emerged who could charm anyone and sell anything regardless of truth. This change is likely what moved him to purchase Joice Heth.
Bond 4
Tamer: EX
The ability to persuade creatures to obey one’s orders. Despite the fact that the many people in Barnum’s displays were to be seen as monsters and mercilessly mocked, they happily went along with Barnum and acted as he wished.
Bond 5
Travelling World’s Fair: The Greatest Show on Earth.
Rank: B Type: Anti-Army
A Reality Marble where Barnum can control everything that occurs within his circus show. As the ringmaster, all obey his words and even the most mentally resistant Servants find themselves influenced by his words.
For brute force, an uncountable number of freaks are summoned to charge the enemy.
Extra
When Barnum was imprisoned, he came into contact with the God-like entity of truth known as Aletheia, able to ensnare living beings by replacing their spinal bone in puppet-like fashion. Rather than succumb however, Barnum did the impossible – he tamed Aletheia and absorbed her powers. When unleashing his full might, his freak show is replaced by alien creatures incomprehensible by man and he can enforce his will on the world to have whatever he claims accepted as pure truth. With Aletheia’s powers to ensnare, a circus was born.

2nd ascension
“Always getting better, but the main attraction is yet to come! Something tells me you’re not going to believe your eyes.”
3rd ascension
“My true form, revealed. Did I knock you off your seat Master? Now that I’m using the full might of Aletheia, you better put me to good use. Otherwise, this Master-Servant relationship might end up reversed.”
4th ascension
“This power, this is what allowed me to rise to fame as the Circus King. No one on earth would ever be able to command the respect and talent that I gathered in the circus ring. For taking me this far, maybe, just maybe, I’ll let you lead the show for now.”

Battle Start 1
“Let’s make a show of it!”
Battle Start 2
“The performance will begin shortly!”

Regular Damage
“Hmm!”
Defeated 1
“Show’s over folks…”
Defeated 2
“If only I could access…”
Battle finish 1
“Thanks for coming to our magnificent exhibition!”
Battle finish 2
“I’ve worked with freaks far scarier than you.”

Bond 1
“Show business is a strange thing you know. You have to demand respect from your fellow performers and you have to be able to constantly amaze your viewers. I was lucky enough to learn a few tricks of the trade. Want to hear them?”
Bond 2
“It wasn’t as if I wasn’t friends with the performers but… well, I couldn’t get too close to them or lose my reputation. You can understand that right? No? My, what a selfless person you are.”
Bond 3
“I was a failure at first. It took me until something like sixty before I actually managed to find success. On that day however, my life changed entirely. Things I didn’t know were possible revealed themselves to me and showed me the path. That’s the prologue to the greatest show on earth.”
Bond 4
“Hats off to you Master. Where most people would accept the lies and falsehoods, you’ve managed to see through them all. But there’s one left you haven’t figured out, can you tell what it is? Suspense and mystery keeps the guests in the seats!”
Bond 5
“I think you’ll want to ascend me Master. That way, I’ll be able to give you a proper behind the scenes look on how the magic happens. Isn’t that exciting? A special circus show, just for you. Considering how long we’ve worked together, that’s the least you deserve.”
Dialogue 1
“There’s a sucker born every minute. Remember that and take advantage of it. It could save your life.”
Dialogue 2
“So many interesting people here, they would certainly spice up a show… Don’t worry Master, I’m sure I can get their permission if I wanted to.”
Dialogue 3
“I’m not much of a fighter, but I can call upon my fellow performers to do the deed. I may be a weakling, but they’ll listen to you. After all, they listen to me.”
Dialogue (Special)
“Abigail Williams, so small and yet… there’s a kinship between me and her. It may sound rather suspicious, but could you introduce me? I get the feeling she has what it takes to be a star in my show.”

Something you like
“Performing is the best! The thrill, the fame, the money! Ha, I’m not like you master, I’m a philanthropist for profit!”
Something you hate
“Waste is a bad thing you know? Wasted opportunities, wasted money, all it means is you’re placed in a slightly worse situation.”
About the Holy Grail
“Yes, with the power of a Holy Grail, I could make an even more magnificent circus! Why would you ask, you wouldn’t happen to have one, would you?”
During an Event
“There’s a spectacle going on Master, one without me! Might we find the source of the entertainment?”
Birthday
“Happy Birthday! Would you like a cake? I don’t really know how the Japanese do it, but I can give you a present you won’t forget! On with the show!”

_______________

Dialogue (After Ascension 3)

Battle Start 1
“The ringleader has arrived.”
Battle Start 2
“Put on a good show for me.”
Skill 1
“Foolish.”
Skill 2
“A simple feat.”
Attack Selected 1
“Right.”
Attack Selected 2
“Time to shine...!”
Attack Selected 3
“Understood.”
Noble Phantasm Selected
“Y' l' uln ya r'luh, aletheia!”
Attack 1
“Pitiful.”
Attack 2
“Ha!”
Attack 3
“Go!”
Extra Attack
“Obey your master!”
Noble Phantasm
“Ep ot wgah'n mgleth, n'ghftephai mgepr'luh orr'ee ah'lw'nafh lloigehye! Travelling World’s Fair!”
Damage from Noble Phantasm
“Okay then.”
Regular Damage
“Hmm!”
Defeated 1
“Even this power…?”
Defeated 2
“This is only a temporary measure. You cannot kill a god.”
Battle finish 1
“You will make an interesting addition to my collection.”
Battle finish 2
“But another freak under my control.”

Bond 1
“Show business is a cruel thing you know. You must force obedience, demand respect to such an extent that they will even humiliate themselves for the sake of entertainment. If you cannot do that, then you will fade into the shadows, lost to history.”
Bond 2
“A few sweet nothings and a flash of power and there were none who could go against me. Oh, they tried, but they lacked the strength to end my legacy. Those freaks would’ve been nothing if it weren’t for me, do you understand that Master?”
Bond 3
“Aletheia tried to consume my soul, the foolish creature. It was a harsh battle, but I triumphed over her and took her power for my own, I tamed that which could not be tamed. I controlled the truth and freewill; you should be glad I didn’t do something worse than profit and entertain.
Bond 4
“Hats off to you Master. You’ve somehow managed to withstand the power of Aletheia. If we didn’t have a contract, I may have just taken control of you and made you a part of my shows. Such a supple body… don’t worry, that won’t happen for now.”
Bond 5
“I’m not like the other foreigners. Their existence is a threat to humanity, but they are ultimately good meaning people. I however am rotten to the core, a narcissist who made others fall in love with his productions through force. However, if you’re truly willing to let a sick god like me stick around, then I’ll give you a show you’ll never forget.”
Dialogue 1
“Under the control of truth, even lost souls live happy. Do you not agree with that Master? Though they were under my influence, the freaks lived in bliss.”
Dialogue 2
“So many interesting people here, they would certainly spice up a show… Don’t worry Master, I’m sure I can get their permission if I wanted to.”
Dialogue 3
“Aletheia’s power means my freaks and hers will obey any order I give. Should you request it Master, I could even take over the world. If you find anyone unruly, just send them my way..”
Dialogue (Special)
“Abigail Williams, so small and yet… there’s a kinship between me and her. It may sound rather suspicious, but could you introduce me? I get the feeling she has what it takes to be a star in my show.”

Something you like
“The truth and obedience. If everyone was just honest with themselves and each other, the world would be a better place, wouldn’t it? I’m a hypocrite? How can you say that when I hold the power to declare what truth is?”
Something you hate
“Disobedience. I am the ringmaster of the show, and the freaks should remember that. Fortunately, I have fail-safes in place to ensure their loyalty.”
About the Holy Grail
“I hold all I could ever need, but the Grail would make an excellent display piece. Perhaps if you get into my good books, I could use my wish on you instead.”
During an Event
“The freaks are getting restless. Shall we put them in their place Master?”
Birthday
“Master, it’s your birthday. How about I give you a show? No tricks, no hoaxes, no evil intentions. I could give you that much for one day.”

(Foreigners can't just come into contact with unspeakable beings, they have to overcome their mind warping power described as 'consuming the madness'. I wanted to really emphasise the concept of that here, where we're not just overcoming it, but literally dominating the beings and stealing their power.)
