I'm sorry you don't like it but I like lecturing. Its partially why I wanted to be a teacher. I like talking to people about history and educating them on that. And I don't think I even do it that long when I lecture> Maybe 20min 25min at tops. I like talking about this stuff and in my school its going to be one of the only places they get this since so many of them don't or can't do the pre reading of notes or what ever document we are doing.
Yes having class room discussions are great and letting them learn and explore and do activities like that are great. But honestly they have the 10min at the start of class for APK and then the other 60 min during class when they are doing their assignments to do that stuff.
20 min of listing to me go over the notes they were supposed to read the night before and ask them questions about it isn't going to kill them. And its not like I'm teaching middle school or elementary. I'm teaching juniors. The kids who are looking for colleges and getting ready to go into the job field.
And yes different learning styles but auditory learners are a thing. And again if I'm having them read historical documents and talk in small groups and write responses to what they have read in the other 60 min of the class then why is it bad I spend 20 min going over the causes of imperalism and start talking about two of the cases of it in american history?
20min does not make me a sage on a stage. Also on the other hand we are meant to slowly release the kids with a me do/we do/they do. To me the lecture portion would fall under the me do part.
Take away the lecture and I honestly feel like we might as well be telling the kids to sign up on Khan Academy every day. Which is apparently ok with some people though it just puts the "sage" in a box. But because they are on a computer its now ok.....
I like lecturing. I'm sorry some don't. But 20 min talking with them about the stuff they were meant to read the `night before is not to much. Especially in a 90min class. If you don't want me lecturing about the subject my degree is in then whats the point of my degree?
I was not having a good week and my feedback from my principal isn't helping. I don't think they understand just how hard it is to keep kids engaged in virtual classes lecture or no.
An and all spelling errors are due to frustration and speed.
