OS: Windows 10 Pro
I play a lot of games and use various launcher. The a few common ways I download game updates are via steam (for many games), Tarkov launcher (Battlestate Games), Valorant Launcher, and Battle.Net launcher (only game is CoD MW).
I get regular updates for these games through these launchers, but the only one that is always active is Steam. I have not noticed any issues updating with the Tarkov launcher.
When I get an update in Valorant, the issues are not usually seen as the updates are typically much smaller, but I have observed it there. The issue typically appears when I launch the Battle.Net launcher and the update starts immediately (I've now disabled the auto update).
Symtpoms - PC slows down to a crawl. Moving the mouse at all doesn't update for seconds and sometimes minutes
- Download rate when it updates suggests speeds of <1 MB
- Requires rebooting of PC through use of power button due to hanging
- High system interrupts. If had Task manager opened and the system interrupts go through the roof.
I have games managed by steam on the same drive. I have used check disk to see if the drive is having issues. It is an SSD and is a few years old at this point, but as mentioned above other downloads do not seem to have an issue.
I've of course tried restarting. That may solve the issue for that update, but the next update it comes back and often restarting is the way to "fix it" for the specific update.
My understanding from online is that high system interrupts can mean a lot of things like hardware failing, but with other tools working fine this seems less likely.
I have ZoneAlarm installed and thought this was the culprit at one point, but after exiting it and trying to run the launcher and having the issue that seems to be busted as a theory.
I ran smartctl and don't fully understand the way to read the results, but the tests I ran passed and the overall status was good. I won't pretend to know what all it was saying, but the test outcomes were good.
I'm up for running any tests that can help me determine the issue. I've not seen any other programs besides the B.Net launcher and valorant launcher to have caused this.
Thanks in advance!
Edit Still having this issue. Hope someone just happens to have an idea to try out. :( Not sure what is going on. Trying to find out what what is hurting my pc.
