FireTV + XBMC/Kodi is amazing and here are the quick and dirty steps to get you up and running in 15 minutes without having to read

Everyone with a FireTV or FireTV Stick who wants to put XBMC on is going to want this exact setup, but I had to watch several YouTube videos saying different instructions, hunt around to discover Llama launcher, etc. to find the steps.
This is exactly what you need to do without any BS to get up and running.
  1. FireTV: Go to Settings>System>Developer Options, turn on both options (ADB debugging and Apps from Unknown).
  2. FireTV: Go to Settings>System>About>Network and write down the IP address from the right side.
  3. FireTV: Go to Amazon Store and download "iKonoTv" and install it. This app is just a placeholder app that will be overwritten so XBMC can launch easily
  4. Computer: Download adbFire from http://www.jocala.com/adbfire.html
  5. Computer: Download ARM version of Android Kodi/XBMC from http://kodi.tv/download/
  6. Computer: Open adbFire, type in IP address of FireTV from step 2, hit connect
  7. Computer: In adbFire, click Install APK, then navigate to the file you downloaded (xbmc/kodi) from step 5 and install...wait until it's done.
  8. FireTV: Go to Settings>Applications, "Manage All Installed Applications", scroll to bottom to find XBMC and launch it. It's installed/working. This is a pain to launch though, so we're going to put the icon on the App screen.
  9. Computer: In adbFire tool, click "Llama Options" button, check "Install Llama" and select either boot AFTV to Kodi or Link Kodi to iKonoTv or both. Then check "replace iKonoTv icon with XBMC icon", click Ok.
  10. FireTV: Go to Settings>Applications, "Manage All Installed Applications", scroll to find "Llama" and launch it.
  11. FireTV: While in Llama app, click the "options" button on the FireTV remote control (looks like 3 horizontal lines) and click "Import/Export Data" and "Import from USB storage" and click "ok" to the prompt about overwriting.
  12. FireTV: Now go to Apps section on the FireTV and you should see and XBMC/Kodi icon or you might still see the iKonoTV icon...it takes a little bit for the icon to replace. Just launch it and it'll launch XBMC.

Few unrelated FireTV questions: side loading someone else's FireTV, best USB options and emulation starter guide.

  1. I set up a friends Fire Stick with Kodi and got their Amazon acct login to add icon but now that it's gone from Amazon it's gone from their recents. I set it all up at my house beforehand. Now that I'm going to use firestarter, which is awesome btw, how do I sideload it on their stick remotely? I tried using their IP on adbfire but it won't connect, mine on the local network connects fine. Can I use adbfire to somehow connect remotely, or something else? Rather not have to talk them through it on their computer.
  2. I'm upgrading my setup to the FireTV from the stick for the USB storage and Ethernet. I havn't been able to find a good resource for supported USB size/manufacturetype, will USB powered drives work or only thumb drives? I'd rather not add a powered hub to the mix for simplicity sake.
  3. Emulation. I've seen some guides in the past for setting up emulation but nothing since USB storage became native. Anyone seen a good guide for getting a good front end like gamesome, emulators loaded, ROMs on the USB and pointing the emulators to the ROMs on the USB? Hoping for a comprehensive write up rather than piecing together from old info if possible.
