Looking to build a SFF machine that packs a punch
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Working from home and gaming. Boring Office stuff, and whatever's on Steam that takes my fancy.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
For the purposes of this project pretty much limitless. There's likely a point of diminishing returns over £1500-£2000 though.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
Looks like the J-Hack Pure Mk2 should land around SeptembeOctober time, so when the case is ready. Looks like Nvidia and friends may have some deals, steals and sales of the century around Q3 end.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)
J-Hack Pure Mk2 is already decided as a case so a spec that will fit into that.
Innards for the magic box only - mobo, GPU, CPU... I'll need to think about PSU options with a SFF. I'd like it to be brickless but I'm not sure if that's possible with a GPU on this model.
I have 16GB RAM (Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3L 1600 MT/s (PC3L-12800) SODIMM 204-Pin - CT2KIT102464BF160B) and 500GB HD (Samsung MZ-M5E500BW 850E 500 GB mSATA SSD) leftover from the outgoing system, I don't mind buying new RAM and a hard drive if I have to though.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
UK South East. I'll import 'em from the US if need be.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
The RAM and HD mentioned above. I have a dual monitor setup so the ability to use 2 screens is a must.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I won't be overclocking. How it comes is how it stays.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
As mentioned above I'd like it to be both brickless and GPU if possible. Having a power brick isn't a dealbreaker though.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
J-Hack case. Fans and everything else murdered out.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Already sorted thanks.
Extra info or particulars
My missus would like a Hackintosh partition as a nice-to-have but I understand this may be a non starter with AMD CPUs, and with Nvidia GPUs an impossibility. I understand the compatibility issues are a nightmare to deal with so this isn't a dealbreaker.
I'd like the fans as quiet as possible. I understand Noctua may be the go-to for this.

HDD Disconnects randomly
i3-4150 3.5Ghz Nvidia GeForce GT 1030 Graphics Card 8 GB RAM BIOSTAR H81MLV3 5.0 Motherboard 200 GB Samsung SSD, 2TB WD HDD all hooked to a 450W PSU Operating System: Windows 10
Issue: The computer sometimes disconnects the Hard Drive i.e. D, E and F drives. The C drive (SSD) does NOT disconnect at all.
Explanation: Back in January 2020, I was playing GTA V on my computer when suddenly a message popped up "GTA V has stopped working" at first I thought it was a normal crash but when I ended the process with Task Manager and went on to restart the game, it said the path does not exist and game could not be found, I opened "This PC" to find out that all disk partitions except C (C is SSD Partition) were missing, I tried restarting the computer several times but nothing helped.
I looked for solutions online but nothing seemed to have worked. I thought my Hard Drive has corrupted and the data on it is seemingly lost. I then shut my PC down for a while trying to consult some technicians on phone, by the time a technician arrived it had already been 5 hours so I think my PC had enough time to cool down. To my surprise, when he booted up the PC, all partitions were right there, completely intact and everything worked as normal. The next day, I was again playing GTA V and again the error message popped up. I tried shutting the computer down and booting it up after 30 mins and the partitions magically reappeared. I was convinced that my HDD was dying and I needed to back up the data immediately.
I ran a full computer scan through MalwareBytes and Windows Defender, Win Def found some viruses and removed them but MalwareBytes didn't find any. Just before I was going to shut down the computer, the HDD crashed again. I gave it some time and then backed up my data in another HDD.
Then I didn't use my computer for around 2 months because of the Coronavirus pandemic but in March I bought WD 2TB and hooked it up to the computer. I reinstalled Windows 10 as well just in case. When the PC booted, it worked for around 4 hours (I was using Lumion for rendering and modelling in the meantime) then it crashed again. I was totally confused to why it still crashes and I still am confused to this date. I changed the HDD SATA Port from SATA2 to SATA4 Port and it worked for a good week and now its crashing again, Its been like this for the past 7 months.
For the past 7 months, I have been mainly doing work on my SSD since HDD is very unreliable.
- There is no problem with my HDD because I tried using the same HDD on another computer and it works just fine.
- The SATA Ports are very likely at fault but once again, if they are corrupt, why would they let the Computer boot in the first place.
- I have already reinstalled Windows 10, 3 Times since January so I don't think it's a drivevirus issue.
- There are 2 Possible suspects here (according to me):The SATA Ports or the Motherboard.
Edit: Steps I have taken to try and fix the issue:-
• Reset CMOS • Tried different SATA Cables • Tried different PSU • Uninstall Intel RST
